Allison Shearmur (C’85), Film Producer and Former President of Production at Paramount Pictures and Lionsgate Films

Ms. Shearmur is the former President of Production at Paramount Pictures and Lionsgate Films, where she oversaw the production of The Hunger Games. She has also worked for Universal, Walt Disney Pictures and Columbia Pictures, having overseen the production of films such as The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, The Bourne Identity and the American Pie trilogy. Ms. Shearmur’s visit has been made possible with generous contributions from the Penn Cinema Studies Department and is co-hosted by the Alpha Kappa Psi Aspire to Excellence Speaker Series.

Matt Apfel (Chief Digital Officer) & Jonathan Seiden (VP/Director of IP), CORE Media Group (American Idol, So You Think You Can Dance?)

Matt Apfel (Chief Digital Officer), Penn Law ’90, and Jonathan Seiden (VP/Director of Intellectual Property), Penn Law ’01, of CORE Media Group will speak on their experience in television production and entertainment law. CORE’s portfolio includes American Idol, So You Think You Can Dance? and MBST Talent Management, which represents talent such as Billy Crystal, Robin Williams and Woody Allen. Mr. Apfel produced Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? and the OJ Simpson Trial for Court TV and also founded WeMix.com with Ludacris, while Mr. Seiden has counseled Muhammad Ali Enterprises and Elvis Presley Enterprises in the acquisition of IP and merchandise licensing.

SPEC Concerts Presents: Penn Music Collective

The Penn Music Collective, hosted by SPEC Concerts, the Vagina Monologues, Alpha Kappa Psi and Wharton UME, presents four Penn music groups/solo artists: Marigolds, Rail 3, Sarah Lindstedt and Slow Dance Chubby. Denmark West, Former Executive Vice President, MTV Networks and Former President, BET Digital Media Division

Denmark West is the former President of BET Digital Media Division, where he was responsible for the online, mobile, VOD and ad network businesses. Prior to BET, Mr. West was an Executive Vice President at MTV, where he wrote the strategy for games and social media outreach and oversaw the Global Digital Media Division. Prior to MTV, Mr. Westt worked at Microsoft, Smith Barney and Goldman Sachs. He received an AB in Applied Mathematics and an MBA from Harvard University and is currently a principal at Forrer Street Co. where he advises business and not-for-profit organizations on capital raising, strategic relationships, customer development, product road maps and new business lines. He also invests in selected early stage start-up opportunities.
